Freedom. Independence. These are probably a few things that run through your mind when you think about learning to drive. Before your parents hand over the keys there are decisions to make. The first step is finding the right driving school for you. Let All American Driving School be your first choice.

In the classroom you will learn rules of the road, driving strategies and safety. You will also receive practical behind-the-wheel training with our certified instructors. Our instructors will keep you safe, encourage you toward success and ensure that you receive the best education possible.

While your parents are ultimately the ones who will make the final decision, your input is important so be sure to direct them to the parents section of the site. They will be impressed by our premium insurance security, free shuttle service and our new facilities.

Classroom Training

Classroom sessions consist of 32 hours of instruction. Most of our classes during the school year meet Monday through Thursday for four weeks. The one exception is our 3 p.m. class at our North Garland location. This particular class meets Monday through Friday for three weeks. This class requires one Saturday morning class to reach the required 16 sessions of classroom training. That Saturday session will be at the end of the third week from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Occasionally, we conduct a three week class at our other locations in order to finish prior to a holiday. All classes throughout the year are held for two hours daily. Summer classes are all five days a week for three weeks, with one Saturday.

Classroom Training

All classes must be completed within 6 months with no more than five absences. All missed classes must be made up. To make up a missed class students will need to attend another class which is meeting on the same lesson day that they missed. If this is impossible, a student can arrive for any regularly scheduled class and be given assignments from the day they missed.

Students should always make the front desk and teacher aware that they are making up a class. Driving permits are revoked by the state if all 16 lessons are not completed within 6 months.

Behind the Wheel Training

Behind the wheel training begins when final payment is made and the student passes a permit test. The test includes knowledge of road signs, signals, markings, roadway rules and a vision test.

Once this is accomplished, the student or parent can make driving appointments at the front desk or over the phone. Drive times are limited to two scheduled appointments on the book at any given time. This allows scheduling availability for others. There are a total of 14 hours of in-car training. There are seven hours of driving and seven hours of observation.

Effective May 1, 2010......students must complete an additional 20 hours behind the wheel, 10 of which must be done at night. Ideally, this is to be overseen by the parent/guardian of the new driver. We can provide you with a driving log to follow for the additional hours that are outlined by the state. You may also refer to the state website for forms and additional information. www.tea.state.tx.us/drive If it is impossible for the parent/guardian to provide the additional training hours, All American can assist with the training. Please get in touch with the front desk for information concerning our assisting with these additional hours.

We offer a variety of automobiles for students to drive. All of our cars are continually inspected and maintained. We believe in making sure our cars are safe to provide the maximum safety and protection for our students. We strive to update our fleet on a regular basis with late model vehicles. No other driving school offers the variety and quality of cars for students to drive as does All American Driving School.

An Ongoing Process

Please remember that seven hours of driving will not make a student an accomplished driver. It will take many more hours of experience to accomplish this. It is even more important for the parent or guardian to work in conjunction with the driving school, enforcing the objectives that we stress in our lessons.

We will be more than happy to supply you with an outline of exactly what we focus on during each of the seven lessons, if you request one. Studies show that it takes a minimum of five years for a beginning driver to fully develop their skills and experience enough situations to be considered an accomplished driver.

We will do the best we can with students during the time that the state has outlined for us to work with them. Please continue working, practicing and overseeing their driving when they have completed our program.
